Most people are unaware of the fact that the colors of the roses that they give have a meaning. There is a special meaning behind every color of the rose, whether they are roses given to a friend or to your special one on Valentine’s Day. Every color has a meaning…




Red Roses

Valentine’s day is all about love and people look for ways to impress their loved ones. The most predominant color of the season is red, which signifies romance and love. Red roses are usually given to someone you love, including your family members.

Purple Roses

Purple is for people who are new in love. Simply put, this is for people who are still getting to know each other and are yet to experience the “romantic” part of their relationship. Purple is associated with royalty and signifies the class of the recipient. In the West, it also means that the giver has instantly fallen in love with the recipient.

Orange Roses

Orange, apricot or coral roses are for those who are yet to get into a serious relationship. These colors denote enthusiasm and desire for the recipients. Giving orange colored roses on Valentine’s Day would mean that the giver is interested in getting into a relationship with the recipient.

Yellow Roses

These are the second most popular roses on Valentine’s Day. Yellow is the universal color for friendship and would tell the recipient that you value their friendship. These are often given to a close friend or a colleague.

Pink Roses

Pink roses have different meanings, usually given to express appreciation and gratitude. For an instance, light pink roses mean sympathy and are given to friends or family in hospital. Peach roses are also given for the same purpose, however they are hard to find.

White Roses

White roses are also popular on Valentine’s Day. White is usually a funeral color, but they can be used on solemn occasion to convey humility and reverence. These roses can create a deeper meaning when combined with other colors such as orange, yellow or coral.

Black Roses

Black roses are excessively popular in the recent times. There are a lot of meanings to these roses. For an instance, they are used to signify death and vengeance. On the other hand, they are also used to signify re-birth. Such roses are extremely popular in gothic culture and they are given to signify love in that culture. Black roses do not exist in real, instead these are very dark blue or purple roses painted black.
